Communism

I am an ageing baby boomer. I have long felt that my generation was misled by folks on the left whose fondest wish was to see this country radically changed. The people on the left hate capitalism and free enterprize. They also hate religion. They think the average American is stupid and unsophisticated.  They think the government can better provide for people than people can provide for themselves. People who think this way generally have no moral wisdom. They evaluate social issues in a purely secular manner. Any talk of religion or spirituality turns them off. What they don't realize is that true wisdom comes from God. This was one of the many problems with Communism. Because this economic system had no moral core, there was no incentive for compassion and generosity. Everyone expected the State to provide everything (because it had taken everything). So the principles of loving your neighbor, caring for sick, feeding the hungry, clothing the naked, etc. were lost on the individual. People forgot how to show compassion or brotherly love. The ultimate result was the death of millions.

The following is a tongue-in-cheek lament for Stalin's brand of Communism.

Say it isn't so Uncle Joe.
Did you really kill all those people?
Our movement had just begun to grow,
Wiping out the Church and the steeple.

Say it isn't so Uncle Joe.
Why'd you go and starve all those masses.
Now we'll have to hear "I told you so"
From all the elites in the upper classes.

Say it isn't so Uncle Joe.
Our cause has become a funeral plot.
Buried deep beneath the mud and snow,
Along with Uncle Mao and Pol Pot.

Say it isn't so Uncle Joe.
Just try to explain this to me can ya.
We were on the verge of hello.
Now all that's left to say is "Do Svidania".
